Friday Afternoon: Fun things to do in the Denver/Boulder Areas

All conferees will have Friday afternoon free to enjoy some of the things to see and do around the hotel, in downtown Denver, or downtown Boulder.
For downtown Denver, conferees will be transported by the Westin hotel shuttle to the Westminster Light Rail Station where you will take the B Line to Union Station. Union Station sits at the Western end of the 16th Street Mall and there is a free mall shuttle from the west to the east end of the mall.
There will be one YMCA bus to take people to Boulder, Maximum capacity is 28. There are also buses from the Westminster Light Rail Station into Boulder.

Things to do in Downtown Denver:

At the East end of the mall up on the hill is the Colorado State House- Guided tours on Friday are all reserved for students but you can do a self guided tour (no Dome access). West across Civic Center Park is the Denver Municipal building.
On the South of the park are the Denver Art Museum, the Clyfford Still Museum, and the History Colorado Museum.
  • The Denver Art Museum has a timed entry exhibit exploring the history of Dior
  • Dior: From Paris to the World surveys 70 years of the house of Dior’s enduring legacy and its global influence. A selection of more than 200 couture dresses, as well as accessories, costume jewelry, photographs, drawings, runway videos, and other archival material, will trace the history of the iconic haute couture fashion house, its founder, Christian Dior, and the subsequent artistic directors who carried Dior’s vision into the 21st century.
  • We recommend purchasing tickets ahead of time. The exhibit requires a timed entry ticket. This is not a traveling exhibit.
  • The exhibit ends on March 17!
There are many wonderful shops and restaurants along the 16th Street mall and on Larimer Square, which is just south of the mall on Larimer Street.
The Tattered Cover Book Store is an iconic bookstore where one can relax and browse through books on the western end of the Mall.
One can walk west from the 16th street mall, which will lead you to Confluence and Commons Park- the original site of Denver.
There is a brewpub tour of LoDo, which include the brewpub of former Colorado Governor Hickenlooper- Wynkoop Brewery. This is a walking tour of brewpubs in the lower downtown and costs $40 per person.
Local breweries have has significant growth in Colorado in the last several years. You can also explore the brewies in downtown with a free self guided tour!

Things to do in Downtown Boulder:

We have reserved a tour of Celestial Seasonings; their Tea Manufacturing and Gift Shop; tour is limited to first 28 to sign up.
After the tour, conferees will be dropped off at the Pearl Street Mall, one of the first pedestrian only zones in America. Those that don’t wish the tour will be dropped off at the Pearl Street Mall to relax and shop. Interests near the mall include the Museum of Boulder, Dushanbe Tea House, Sister City Plaza, University of Colorado Campus.
Tours of the Campus are being planned but specific information is not yet available. Transportation back to the Westin will be from the East end of the pedestrian mall at 7:30PM.

For those who wish to remain at the Hotel, there are many things to do on the Promenade, across US 36 at the shops and restaurants at Walnut Creek, or the Butterfly and Insect Pavilion.
